Huawei launches HarmonyOS 2.0, the operating system that will end its dependence on Google

The first smartphone without Android will go on sale in 2021.

The Chinese company Huawei has publicly presented the HarmonyOS 2.0, the second version of its operating system developed to adapt to the US sanctions and which it intends to resort to in response to Google`s ban on using Android.

During the annual event for developers Huawei Developer Conference, whose 2020 edition is held between September 10 and 12 virtually, the tech giant announced that it plans to incorporate the new operating system into its phones in the course of 2021.

The Asian manufacturer will publish this day the beta version of the HarmonyOS software development kit (SDK) for smart watches and televisions.

The same tool will be available for cell phones starting next December, with which external developers can begin to experiment and create applications for the new operating system.

The executive director of Huawei`s Consumer Division, Richard Yu, has confirmed the company`s plans for next year to launch a phone based entirely on the HarmonyOS mobile ecosystem, according to the Hypertext portal.

This event will mark a milestone for the Chinese manufacturer in terms of independence from foreign technology and policies.
