We will board the Expedition train, travel by train for an hour and 45 minutes to Km 104 (Start of our hike.) (It is worth the effort to get up early and go with this train, which allows us to enter and start our hike early, if we wait for the usual train we would start at noon, starting this trip from Ollantaytambo is also suggested - see our option Combo, the trip to the Sacred Valley with night in Ollantaytambo.) At Km 104 after presenting passports at the control, we began to walk gently to meters of the Vilcanota River. Starting the road we will see the ruins of Chachabamba, an in-situ stone altar that served to worship the sun and the mountains, still venerated by the local people. After visiting Chachabamba, we will continue the path to the south and begin a gradual climb to the mountain, before entering a cloud forest and with lots of vegetation, then the trail goes to the forest and goes west, while we continue uphill in an open meadow. After walking 3 hours, the path descends into an amazing forest. Here we will find a beautiful waterfall, then we will reach the lower part of the ruins of Wiñaywayna. We will appreciate the beauty of this place, complemented by the information of our expert guide. After having lunch in Wiñaywayna, we will continue in the afternoon in the cloud forest, full of bromeliads, orchids, and fern trees. While we walk this last part of the road, we will pass through many impressive features such as stone stairs and tambos ("resting places"). You climb 60 stairs before arriving at Inti Punku ("the door of the sun"). From this point, you can contemplate and observe this wonderful place. Then descend for 45 minutes until you reach the famous viewpoint, from here you can observe the sunset. Descend to the entrance of Machupicchu where we will board the bus to Aguas Calientes.
